The University of California, Merced women's soccer team's season came to an end Thursday afternoon when they fell to the University of Antelope Valley 2-1 in their California Pacific Conference semifinal game.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break thanks to a Bridget Villanueva goal in the 33rd off an assist from Daisy Bonilla.
As the second half progressed, UAV made their move, ultimately breaking through in the 58th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
With time running out and the game seemingly destined for overtime, it was once again UAV who found the back of the net, this time in the 83rd minute, leaving the Bobcats with just over seven minutes left to tie things up.
Try as they may, UC Merced just weren't able to find the equalizer in such a short amount of time.
The Bobcats got the better of UAV in shots and shots on goal, but it was an example of how stats don't always reflect the story of a game.
It was another stellar year for UC Merced women's soccer. After a 12-2-3 regular season, including a 7-1 conference record and an undefeated record at home, the team finished ranked in the top-25 in the country in six different categories, including top-ten in shutouts per game, shots per game, and shots on goal per game.
