The University of California, Merced women's soccer team traveled to Oregon to play two games in three days. Game one came against Southern Oregon University Saturday night, and it was a tough start to the team's road trip as the Bobcats fell 5-0.
In a rare night game, the visiting Bobcats couldn't find a way to reach the back of the net. They were able to rip seven shots on goal, but in the end it just wasn't enough.
The home team got the scoring started in the 15th minute to go up 1-0, then doubled the lead in the 32nd minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
With the game still very well within reach, the Bobcats took the field in the second half with intentions of going on the offensive. Unfortunately Southern Oregon had other plans, bagging another two goals within the first seven minutes of the second half to double their lead. A converted penalty kick in the 73rd minute rounded out the scoring in the tough loss.
The Bobcats get Sunday off before once again taking the field Monday. This time it will be against Oregon Institute of Technology, Sunday at 1:00 PM on OIT's home field.
