VALLEJO, Calif. - Isabella Spiva recorded her first career hat-trick and three other Bobcats scored multiple goals as the University of California, Merced women's soccer team ran by CSU Maritime Academy, 12-1 Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.
The Bobcats (9-6-1, 7-3) 12 goals was a 2019 high and the victory officially locks the Bobcats into the No. 3 seed in the upcoming California Pacific Conference Championship Tournament. Ten of the Bobcats 12 goals were scored in the second half.
Spiva is the second Bobcat to score three goals in a match this year and is the first freshman since Jenn Salinger on September 23, 2017 to accomplish that feat.
A Merced, Calif., native, Spiva scored the game-winning goal in the 26th minute. She recorded her second goal in the 52nd minute and completed her hat trick in the 57th minute. Ciera Santos and Opal Ward recorded assists on the freshman's final two goals.
Jamee Bullock and Jocelye Garcia pitched in a career-high two goals. Garcia also tied her season-high with two assists. Garcia is now the third player in program history to tally at least two assists in three different games during a single-season. The freshman joins Niccole Salm (2018) and Daisy Bonilla (2013).
Jenn Salinger also had a big afternoon, tallying seven points to tie the program's all-time points record. Salinger, who scored two goals and delivered a career-high three assists, is now tied with both Emily Burnett and Claudia Diaz with 73 career points.
Salinger's 73 career points are made up of 30 goals and 13 assists. Her 30 goals are also tied with Burnett for second in program history. Diaz has a program-best 31 goals.
Other UC Merced goal scorers include Ward, Kyndra Kiser and Maddie Door.
Ward and Kiser each had an assist. Santos was good for a career-high two assists. Madison Whitney and Miranda Alvear also notched an assist.
Whitney's assist was the first of her career.
The Bobcats outshot Cal Maritime 68-3, 40-2 on goal. Salinger led all players with a career-high 18 shots (12 on goal), while Spiva took a career-high ten.
Cal Maritime managed to put one of its three shots in the back of the net, a score in the 84th minute by Nathalie Calderon on her senior night.
Up next, the Bobcats take on either Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University or University of Antelope Valley in the Cal Pac semifinals on Thursday, November 14. First touch is slated for 3:30pm in Prescott, Ariz. Embry-Riddle will host the four-team tournament. The winner receives an automatic berth to the 2019 Women's Soccer National Championship Opening Round.
