Lozano Records Shutout, Bobcats Play to 0-0 Draw

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The University of California, Merced women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against The Master's University Saturday afternoon after 110 minutes at Reese Field.

The Bobcats (2-2-1) have earned two straight shutouts, three this season and they have all come on the road.

Junior goalkeeper Ally Lozano tallied a season-high six saves, including three in the second half on the way to her seventh career shutout. She was also tasked with a save on the Mustang's first golden goal attempt in the third minute of overtime. 

The Mustang's next golden goal opportunity went off the crossbar in the 97th minute.

Neither team got a shot off in the second overtime period. The closest thing to a scoring opportunity was a Mustang's corner kick, but D Covarrubias got the first touch on it and sent the ball to the opposite side of the field.

Overall, TMU outshot UC Merced 12-4. The Bobcats managed just one shot on goal and it was from Jenn Salinger in the 68th minute. Salinger also had a shot in the first half that was ruled wide right.

Cobarrubias and Zoe Juarez accounted for the Bobcats other two shots.

Both teams had very limited scoring opportunities in the first half. The Bobcats were rewarded with a corner kick in the games third minute, but the first shot from either team didn't come until the 27th minute and it was a Mustang's shot saved by Lozano.

Salinger took the Bobcats first shot of the match 61 seconds later.

Both offenses picked up the pace in the second half as the Bobcats stormed down the field after the opening touch, however were whistled offsides in the halves first 30 seconds.

D Covarrbuias recorded a shot a few minutes later.

The second half had a combined eleven shots and six corner kicks compared to four shots and one corner kick in the first half.

The Master's Kayla Sims held match-high with three shots, while goalkeeper Lacey Lehman was credited with the shutout.

Saturday's scoreless draw was the Bobcats first since September 11, 2016.

Up next, UC Merced hosts Benedictine University at Mesa in the California Pacific Conference opener on Friday, September 27. First touch on Bobcat Field is set for 5:00pm.
