Women's Soccer Earns Dominant 6-0 Win at Park Gilbert

MESA, Ariz. - The University of California, Merced women's soccer team posted their biggest road win of the year and shutout Park University Gilbert 6-0 on Saturday morning to get back over .500 in California Pacific Conference play.

The Bobcats (4-3-2, 3-2) match at Park Gilbert marked the first ever meeting with the Buccaneers. 

Jocelyne Garcia and Trinidad Quiroz led the Bobcats efforts with four points each. Garcia scored two goals, while Quiroz finished with two assists and scored a goal of her own. 

Freshmen Hannah DeLay, Celeste Suarez and Kaeley Cariglio also found the back of the net.

Garcia's two-goal game was her first brace of the year, and her first goal in the seventh minute stood as the game-winning goal. Her second score came in the 59th minute. With her performance, Garcia moved ahead of D Covarrubias and Daisy Bonilla for sole possession of fourth place on the program's all-time goals list with 25 career goals.

DeLay put the Bobcats ahead 2-0 in the 31st minute and now leads all UC Merced freshmen with three goals. Suarez scored her second career goal in the 37th minute, putting the Bobcats up 3-0 going into halftime.

Quiroz (57'), Garcia (58') and Cariglio (60') accounted for the Bobcats flurry of goals early in the second half to round out the 6-0 win. Quiroz shares team-high with five goals in 2022.

The six-goal victory was the Bobcats third largest scoring margin of the year.

Baleigh Zamudio was credited with her first two assists of the year. Quiroz also had two assists, while Stephanie Medina and Kyla Dolorfino had an assist each. Dolorfino leads the Bobcats with four assists on the season.

UC Merced outshot Park Gilbert 23-3 in the win, 16-1 on target. Quiroz put four of her match-high six shots on frame. The Bobcats three shots allowed marked the fewest amount of shots in a single-game all year.

The Bobcats won the corner kick battle 5-1.

Jadyn Gong earned the start between the posts and split time with Melody Martinez. Gong was tasked with and made one save. The Bobcats shutout marked the fourth of the year.

Up next, UC Merced plays host to Soka University of America on Saturday, October 8 at 1:00pm on Bobcat Field.
