Box Score MERCED, Calif. - The University of California, Merced women's soccer team scored seven goals in the second half in an 8-0 rout of Providence Christian College Thursday night on Bobcat Field.
The Bobcats (6-3-2, 5-2) victory extends the winning streak to a season-long three games. UC Merced has scored at least six goals in all three wins for the first time in program history and has outscored their opponents 20-1 in the stretch. The shutout marked the Bobcats fifth of the year, their most since the 2019 season.
Jocelyne Garcia highlighted the Bobcats 8-0 win over Providence with two goals and an assist. Garcia has scored in three straight games and has been credited with an assist in each of the last two contests. Garcia's assist on Thursday night moved her into a tie with Jenn Salinger for the most assists in program history. Garcia, who has seven goals and four assists this year, has 23 career assists.
Hannah DeLay notched her first career multi-goal game with two goals. Trinity Dunbar, Isabella Spiva, Trinidad Quiroz, and Kaeley Cariglio also scored. Quiroz's goal was her team-leading ninth of the season.
Spiva's goal moved her into a three-way tie with Ashley Bennett and Bridget Villanueva for eighth in program history with 19 career goals. Spiva, who has scored in back-to-back games, has four goals this season.
Dunbar and Cariglio also recorded an assist in addition to the goal of their own. Ciera Santos was credited with two assists. Scylla Alavizos, Katy Flores, Zoe Juarez, and Carly Kissinger earned their first assists of the season. Flores' and Juarez's assist were the first of their careers. Preeya Singh also assisted a Bobcat goal.
Dunbar's goal in the 18th minute stood as the game-winning goal. Receiving a throw-in from Garica, Dunbar took a few dribbles to get a straight away shot off and then beat the leaping keeper.
The Bobcats seven goals in the second half came in bunches. Spiva got behind the opponents defense to make it 2-0 in the 56th minute, and then Garcia and Qurioz combined for three goals within the next ten minutes. Two of the goals came off a set piece. A goal from Cariglio made it 6-0 in the 71st minute, and then DeLay scored the Bobcats final two goals in a seven-minute window to cap off the Bobcats 8-0 win. DeLay's second goal came in the 83rd minute.
UC Merced outshot Providence 35-2 in the win. Both numbers were season-best's. 20 of the Bobcats 35 shots were on target. Qurioz and Garcia shared match-high with seven shots. Quiroz put five on frame.
The Bobcats also earned seven corner kicks and held Providence to just one corner.
Jadyn Gong earned the start and was tasked with just one save in 63 minutes of action. Veronica Vasquez also logged minutes in goal.
The Bobcats improved to 7-0 all-time against the Sea Beggars, their most wins without a loss against any opponent in program history.
Looking ahead, the Bobcats host the defending Cal Pac Tournament Champion and the 17th-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles for Senior Day on Saturday, October 15. First touch is scheduled for 11:00am on Bobcat Field.
