MERCED, Calif. - The University of California, Merced women's soccer team controlled possession and earned a 1-0 shutout over Simpson University in the regular season home finale and Breast Cancer Awareness Match on Thursday evening at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats (7-4-2, 6-3) shutout was their sixth of the season, double their shutout mark from a season ago and the win keeps them in a favorable spot to clinch a spot in the Cal Pac Championships with just three conference games remaining.

Kaeley Cariglio scored the Bobcats game-winning goal in the 30th minute off a cross inside the goal box from Trinidad Quiroz. Cariglio's goal was her fourth of the season and her first career game-winning goal. All four of her goals have come in Cal Pac play.

Qurioz's assist was her team-leading fifth of the season. Quiroz is on pace to become the third player in program history to lead her team in both goals and assists in the same season.

The Bobcats controlled the majority of the match, outshooting Simpson 22-3 and recording a season-high 13 corner kicks. The Bobcats put eight shots on goal, five from Cariglio. Quiroz, Jocelyne Garcia and Isabella Spiva each put one shot on frame and combined for 12 shots overall.

Jadyn Gong was forced to make just one save in her second shutout of the season. 

The Bobcats improved to 13-2 all-time against Simpson, their most wins against any opponent in program history. The Bobcats are a perfect 8-0 at home against the Red Hawks.

Looking ahead, the Bobcats play at University of Antelope Valley on Saturday, October 22. First touch is scheduled for 11:00am at the Lancaster National Soccer Center.
