Box Score LANCASTER, Calif. - Jocelyne Garcia became the program's all-time assists leader and the University of California, Merced women's soccer team clinched a spot in the California Pacific Conference Championships with a 3-1 win over University of Antelope Valley on Saturday morning.
The Bobcats (8-4-2, 7-3) postseason berth is their eighth in a row and they have now won at least seven Cal Pac games for the fourth consecutive year, not including the 2020 season in which only six games (6-0) were played.
Garcia entered the day tied with Jenn Salinger with 23 career assists before breaking the record in the opening minutes of the Bobcats 3-1 win. Garcia assisted an Isabella Spiva goal, and then later assisted Trinidad Quiroz's game-winning goal in the 50th minute. Garcia is now all alone on top the record books with 25 career assists.
Garcia connecting with Spiva in the third minute had the Bobcats up 1-0 for the majority of the first half. UAV scored their lone goal in the 44th minute and the game was tied 1-1 at intermission.
Quiroz put the Bobcats back on top in the 50th minute with her eventual game-winning goal. Quiroz scored again in the 72nd minute to finalize the scoring in the 3-1 win.
The sophomore's brace was her fourth multi-goal game of the year and she heads into the final three regular season games with 12 goals overall. Quiroz's 12 goals are tied with Claudia Diaz for the third most goals in UC Merced single-season history.
Ciera Santos was credited with her fifth assist of the season and eleventh of her career on Quiroz's second goal. With the assist, Santos moved into a three-way tie with Diaz and Ashley Bennett for ninth in program history in career assists.
UC Merced outshot UAV 12-3 in the victory, 5-2 on goal. It marked the Bobcats second straight match limiting their opponent to just three shots.
Quiroz put two of her match-high five shots on target, which both resulted in goals. Spiva, Kaeley Cariglio, and Kaylee Melendez also recorded a shot on frame.
Head coach Roman DuChateau's team earned two corner kicks while holding the opponent without a single corner.
Jadyn Gong recorded one save in 90 minutes between the posts.
Up next, UC Merced will play a nonconference match at UC Santa Cruz on Tuesday, October 25. First touch from Santa Cruz is scheduled for 4:00pm.
