Box Score SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The University of California, Merced women's soccer team fell 2-0 to UC Santa Cruz in a nonconference road matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
UC Santa Cruz scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 17th minute and found the back of the net a second time in the 71st. The Bobcats (8-5-2, 7-3) were held scoreless for the first time in the last ten games dating back to September 6.
The Bobcats were limited to four shots and two corner kicks in the setback. Ciera Santos got off two shots, while Jocelyne Garcia and Kacey Rodriguez each took a shot on goal.
Veronica Vazquez made six saves and played all 90 minutes for the Bobcats in goal. Vazquez's efforts saw her pass Emma Broderick for fourth in program history with 71 career saves. Vazquez's start was her second of the season.
Preeya Singh earned her first career start.
Up next, the Bobcats return to California Pacific Conference play and play at Pacific Union College on Thursday, October 27. First touch from Angwin, Calif., is scheduled for 4:00pm.
