Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The fourth-seeded University of California, Merced women's soccer team was edged by top-seeded Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 2-0 in the California Pacific Conference Championship Semifinals on Thursday night, ending the season.
The Bobcats (10-6-3) held Embry-Riddle scoreless through 67 minutes prior to the Eagles finding the back of the net. The Eagles had not been shutout for the games first 67 minutes in their last 17 outings against Cal Pac opponents dating back to last season, a credit to the Bobcats defense.
Embry-Riddle broke through first in the 68th minute on a counter-attack, before doubling their lead five minutes later on a set piece from 40 yards out. Cal Pac Honorable Mention Sierra Vicente was credited with the game-winning goal. Katy Hyde scored the Eagles second goal.
Embry-Riddle outshot UC Merced 14-6 on the night, 10-4 on goal. The Eagles also won the corner kick battle 4-2. Both of the Bobcats corner kicks came back-to-back early in the contest.
Cal Pac Offensive Player of the Year Trinidad Quiroz led the Bobcats with two shots. All-Cal Pac Second Team selection Jocelyne Garcia recorded a shot on goal, as did freshmen Jennavieve Ordonez, Katy Flores and Hannah DeLay.
UC Merced goalkeeper and reigning Cal Pac Defensive Player of the Week Jadyn Gong stopped five shots, three in the first half and two early in the second half.
Seventeen Bobcats saw action in the semifinals. All-Cal Pac First Team selection Isabella Spiva played all 90 minutes with Gong, Lilly Boucher, honorable mention Baleigh Zamudio and All-Cal Pac Second Team selection Trinity Dunbar.
