Box Score ROCKLIN, Calif. - The University of California, Merced men's basketball team fell 82-59 to Menlo College in their final game in the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic hosted by William Jessup University on Saturday afternoon.
Mason Westlake highlighted the Bobcats (1-2) setback with a season-high 18 points on 55% (6-11) shooting. Westlake knocked down two triples and also grabbed five rebounds.
Jayson Wiltz and Josiah Ajiake scored eight points each off the bench. Jaron Mertle added six points and grabbed five rebounds, while Kingsley Obiorah made two shots and led all players with seven boards. Obiorah also blocked two shots and had a steal for the second straight night.
Other individual notables include six points from Chris Bramah and Cameron Brown. Brown and Obiorah helped facilitate with three assists each.
Mertle scored the first points of the game and Westlake splashed a triple a couple possessions later to take a 5-4 lead, but Menlo buried a three-pointer 20 seconds later and the Bobcats trailed the rest of the way.
The Bobcats fell behind by double figures midway through the first half before Wiltz connected on a couple field goals to cut the deficit to seven points at 26-19. The Bobcats trailed 36-25 at intermission.
Aside from a 7-0 UC Merced run early in the second half, it was mostly Menlo College's game and they went up by 20 points at 62-42 with just under ten minutes to play.
UC Merced finished the night shooting 43% (23-54) from the floor, 27% (3-11) from downtown and 63% (10-16) from the charity stripe.
Of note, the Bobcats forced a season-high 13 turnovers and have forced at least ten turnovers all three games this year.
Menlo College was led by Kaito Williams' 20 points on 67% (6-9) shooting.
