Box Score

MERCED, Calif. - The University of California, Merced women's soccer team scored a season-high nine goals and dominated La Sierra University in the California Pacific Conference opener, winning 9-1 on Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats (2-1-2) have now won seven straight Cal Pac openers dating back to 2016 with five of the seven wins coming by at least three goals.

Trinity Dunbar, Vanessa Raygoza and Trinidad Quiroz each scored twice for the Bobcats, while Kyla Dolorfino led all players with three assists.

Freshmen Kaeley Cariglio and Hannah DeLay recorded their first career goal in the win. Isabella Spiva also scored a second half goal.

Overall, UC Merced outshot La Sierra 24-6, including 19-5 on goal. Quiroz held match-high with eleven shots and put a stellar eight on target. Quiroz is the third Bobcat in program history with eight shots on target in a match.

Dunbar opened the Bobcats scoring in the 16th minute with her first goal of the season coming during a corner kick sequence. Her score, assisted by Jocelyne Garcia, marked Dunbar's third straight Cal Pac game with a goal dating back to last season.

Trinidad Quiroz followed with a successful penalty kick in the 22nd minute. Quiroz's first goal in a UC Merced uniform also stood as the game-winning goal.

Dunbar recorded her first career brace just over a minute later, finding the upper-90 from 30 yards out. Jennavieve Ordonez was credited with her first assist on the goal.

Raygoza and DeLay both scored inside the goal box towards the end of the half off Dolorfino's assists. Dolorfino sent both balls in from well outside the 18-yard box and down the right sideline. DeLay's first career goal was a header and the Bobcats took a 5-0 lead into the break. It was the Bobcats second 5-0 halftime lead of the season.

Cariglio's first career goal was the Bobcats first goal of the second half and it came off a corner kick sequence to put the Bobcats in front 6-0.

Adding to the lead 13 minutes later, Quiroz took a Garcia throw-in and rocketed a shot into the far corner of the net for her first career multi-goal game.

Spiva headed in the Bobcats eighth goal in the 72nd minute directly off a Dolorfino corner kick, while Raygoza capped the Bobcats scoring a few minutes later after taking an Ordonez through ball to the top of the goal box and beating the keeper. Raygoza leads all Bobcats with four goals, two in the season opener and two in the Cal Pac opener.

Spiva's goal on Sunday was the 17th of her career, moving her out of a tie with Bridget Villanueva and into sole possession of tenth on the program's all-time goals list.

Dolorfino's three-assist performance made her the ninth Bobcat in program history to tally three assists in a match, including joining current teammates Garcia and Stephanie Medina. Garcia and Ordonez had two assists each. Trinity Dunbar had an assist to go with her brace, while Liliana Johnson was credited with her first career assist on the Bobcats ninth goal.

Jadyn Gong played 60 minutes between the posts and stopped all three shots she was tasked with in her fourth start of the season.

La Sierra scored their lone goal off a set piece in the 71st minute.

UC Merced improved to 6-0 all-time against La Sierra in the regular season. The Bobcats last four wins over the Golden Eagles came by just a goal. The nine goals is the most ever against La Sierra.

Looking ahead, UC Merced visits Westcliff University for the first time in program history. The Bobcats first road match is scheduled for Friday, September 16 at 7:00pm at Las Lomas Community Park in Irvine, Calif.
