Box Score 2 DAVIS, Calif. – The University of California, Merced men's water polo team played their highest-ranked competition in program history on Sunday at the Aggie Roundup, falling 16-2 to 16th-ranked San Jose State and 26-3 to 4th-ranked UC Davis.
James Soto scored both goals against San Jose State, including a goal at the end of the first quarter to avoid the Bobcats being shutout through the first eight minutes.
Camden Peterson, William Pezold, and Noah Hernandez each scored a goal for the Bobcats against the Aggies. UC Davis scored 12 unanswered goals before Peterson put an end to the scoring drought. Pezold scored midway through the third quarter, while Hernandez found the back of the net in the final three minutes of the match.
Up next, UC Merced plays against Fresno Pacific University at Sunnyside Aquatics Center on Friday, September 23. The second match between the two teams this season is scheduled to start at 10:00am.
