MERCED, Calif. – University of California, Merced women's cross country senior Elizette Ysais has been named the California Pacific Conference Runner of the Month, the league office announced on Thursday night.
Ysais' monthly honor is the third of her career, tied with Sofia Rios for the most in program history. Last year, the Cal Pac named a runner of the week instead of a runner of the month. Ysais also earned that distinction.
Ysais was the Bobcats top scorer and turned in her two fastest times of the year in the Bobcats two October meets.
She took 38th overall in the field of 230 with a time 23:13.4 at the Master's XC Invitational on October 5. This past Saturday, Ysais earned her first top-20 finish of the season in the college women's open race at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational with a season-best time of 23:11.2.
Ysais has competed in 29 races in her UC Merced career and will toe the starting line for 30th time on Monday, October 28 at the California Pacific Conference Championships. The title meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30am. The Hughson, Calif., native is a 4X All-Cal Pac First Team runner.
