Box Score MERCED, Calif. – The University of California, Merced men's basketball team broke the program's single-game scoring record with 117 points in a 117-72 rout over Lincoln University on Saturday night inside the Joseph Edward Gallo Gymnasium.
The Bobcats (6-4) also finished with a program-record .641 field goal percentage in their fourth consecutive win.
Cameron Brown scored a school-record 39 points, breaking the record of 36 that was previously held by Brown and Aki Chambers. Brown made 17-24 field goals and all four of his free throw attempts. He knocked down one triple. Also of note, Brown passed Michael Pierick for tenth in program history with 725 career points. The junior also grabbed a season-high nine rebounds and recorded three steals in the Bobcats biggest nonconference margin of victory since October 28, 2017.
Elijah Charles made program history becoming the first Bobcat to ever go 10-10 from the field in a game. He finished with a season-high 21 points on his 100% field goal percentage and notched a double-double with ten rebounds. Charles' double-double was his second of the season.
Tiler Fears added eleven points on 66% (2-3) shooting from downtown along with four rebounds and two assists. Myles Haynes shot 80% (4-5) to score eight points. He also grabbed a season-high six rebounds.
Jayson Wiltz knocked down two triples in the win, passing Aki Chambers and Branson Garcia for seventh in program history with 80 career triples.
Aidan Sevilla tallied a career-high nine assists, seven points, a block, and a steal. He is just the fifth player in program history with at least nine assists in a game and the first since the 2019-20 season.
Other notables include seven rebounds from Jaron Mertle and three assists from Blake Hudson.
UC Merced outrebounded Lincoln 51-18 on the night.
Head coach Kevin Pham's squad grabbed its first lead of the game at 5-3 two minutes in. After being tied 11-11, Brown scored in the painted area and the Bobcats never looked back.
UC Merced embarked on a 29-4 run over the next ten minutes, highlighted by a 15-0 run to cap it off. Brown had six of the Bobcats 15 points in that final push, while Mertle cashed in a three-pointer.
The run put the Bobcats up 40-15 inside of four minutes and UC Merced carried a 51-27 lead into the locker room.
The Bobcats lead was between 21-27 points for the first five minutes of the second half before Charles extended the lead to 29 with an offensive rebound putback. One possession later, he extended the lead north of 30 points and then Sevilla added to the advantage putting the Bobcats up 74-41 after a triple in the corner.
Haynes hit a three-pointer the next trip down the floor to extend the advantage to 36 points. A few minutes later, Fears got in on the three-point barrage and cashed one in from downtown to make it 91-51 with nine minutes to play.
Then up 93-53, Brown scored the next six points to officially break the program's single-game scoring record. His record-breaking point came on a free throw before he followed with a layup just prior to exiting the game, finishing with 39 points.
Jordan Bateman made it an 8-0 run with two makes at the free throw which gave UC Merced its biggest lead of the game, 101-53 with six minutes left. The Bobcats led by at least 43 points the rest of the night.
Along with the program-record .641 field goal percentage, UC Merced shot 36% (8-22) from downtown and 75% (9-12) at the charity stripe. The Bobcats limited Lincoln to a 39% shooting mark and forced 15 turnovers.
UC Merced improved to 2-1 all-time against the Lincoln Oaklanders.
