UC Merced maintained a lead between 9-12 points for the next six minutes but then PUC put together a 10-0 run to cut the Bobcats lead down to just a possession, 26-24 with 4:34 left in the first half.

Brown stopped PUC's run getting to the free throw line and then scored again shortly after in a 6-0 Bobcat spurt to get the lead back to eight points. The two teams traded trips to the foul line in the closing minutes of the first stanza resulting in a 36-28 UC Merced lead at intermission.

Josiah Ajiake started the second half with an offensive rebound putback to give the Bobcats a double-figure lead again, 38-28. Two minutes later, he finished through contact to put his team by a game-high 14 points at the time.

However, PUC dominated the next four minutes with a 17-3 run to pull even for the first time. It was 47-47 with 13:29 to play. The Pioneers knocked down a trio of three-pointers in their surge.
