CARSON, Calif. – The University of California, Merced men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday night at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Bobcats (1-4-3) allowed three first half goals to the defending CCAA Champions.
CSUDH scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 14th minute from ten yards out. The Toros connected a series of passes within the attacking third to get Christian Briseno a clean look as he slipped through the defense.
The Toros scored on an own goal in the 34th minute and then extended their lead to 3-0 scoring off a turnover in the 42nd minute.
UC Merced was outshot 10-6 in the match, but outshot the Toros 5-1 in the second half. Christian Gallo was responsible for the Bobcats first shot in the first half coming off a corner kick but it missed high. Eduardo Zamudio took a team-high two shots, one on frame, in the second half. Four of the Bobcats six shots came in the final ten minutes.
The Bobcats won the corner kick battle 3-1. Also of note, UC Merced was whistled for just two fouls.
Gallo, Juan Lara, and Jaycob Walker played the full 90 minutes for UC Merced.
Angel Joaquin earned the start in goal. Abel Calvillo played the second half between the posts.
Up next, UC Merced will play at No. 24 Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday, October 12. First touch from Premier Field in San Bernardino, Calif., is scheduled for 11:30am.
