SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Trinidad Quiroz scored two goals and the University of California, Merced women's soccer team blanked Cal State San Bernardino 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Premier Field.
The Bobcats (5-3-3) two goals marked a season-high and their road win was their first in CCAA action.
Quiroz's multi-goal game was the eleventh of her career. The Bobcats senior is up to six goals on the year and 47 in her career.
Her first goal came on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute that she buried lower left corner. Quiroz earned the PK as she attempted to score a header but it was a handball on a Coyotes defender.
Quiroz doubled the Bobcats lead in the 70th minute off an assist from goalkeeper Alicia Lepe. Lepe delivered a goal kick into the center circle that was headed the wrong way by a Yotes defender. Quiroz was the first to the ball and needed just two dribbles to get into the 18-yard box and then score to register her brace.
Lepe recorded four saves in her CCAA leading seventh shutout of the season. With it, Lepe also becomes just the second player in program history with seven or more shutouts in multiple seasons, joining Maggie Morales (2014-15). She also recorded her first career assist.
Head coach Roman DuChateau's team outshot CSUSB 11-9, including 5-4 on frame.
Quiroz (3 SOG) and Jackie Tamayo (2 SOG) made up the Bobcats shots on goal.
Preeya Singh and Macy Max logged all 90 minutes for the eleventh straight match.
There were no corner kicks or cautions in the game. A total 23 fouls were called, 13 against the Coyotes.
Up next, UC Merced will play at San Francisco State on Friday, October 17. First touch from Cox Stadium in San Francisco is scheduled for 12:30pm.
