Cross Country Closes Season at First Ever CCAA Championships

CHICO, Calif. – The University of California, Merced cross country team wrapped up its 2025 season by competing in the Bobcats first ever CCAA Championships on Friday morning at Hooker Oak Park.

Chico State swept the CCAA Cross Country individual and team championships.

UC Merced women's cross country placed eighth out of ten teams, while UC Merced's men finished tenth out of 12 teams.

Irene Martinez was the Bobcats lead runner in the 6K, placing 76th with a time of 25:03. Martinez, a sophomore, is the Bobcats first underclasswoman to lead the Bobcats in a conference race since Elizette Ysais in 2021.

Brigette Trujillo finished 81st stopping the clock at 25:16.4. With her time, she grabs the sixth spot on the program's all-time postseason top 10 list.

Kasia Holland (82nd/25:16.5) was right there with Trujillo as the Bobcats third scorer. Mariah Dhillon (94th/26:22.2) and Sofia Najarro (95th/26:47.3) were next for the Bobcats to earn the team score.

Mia Abonza (100th/28:32.8), Sinthya Duran (103rd/32:11.4), Ciarra Cabrera-Martinez (104th/32.12.8), and Natalie Hernandez Martinez (105th/32:13.3) also ran for UC Merced.

Riki Moscoso was the Bobcats top finisher in the men's 8K, placing 36th in 26:18.6. He is UC Merced's first newcomer to cross the finish line first for the Bobcats at a conference meet since Peter Maciel in 2019.

Draven Grondona placed 53rd in 26:54.9. Jorge Mandujano followed shortly after to place 56th in 27:02.5. Jalen Morales (72nd/27:33) and Sammy Leyva (73rd/27:33) ran identical personal-best times to finish as the Bobcats fourth and fifth scorers.

Sergio Vivar Jr. (77th/27:49.8), Steven Gonzalez (79th/27:51.8), Kevin Pedroza (82nd/28:02.2), Kitto Gonzalez (84th/28:13.0) and Alberto Guevara (90th/28:40.0) also crossed the finish line for the Bobcats.

UC Merced will be eligible to compete in NCAA Championships in the 2026 season.

The Bobcats will now look ahead to track season in the new calendar year.
