MERCED, Calif. – The University of California, Merced women's soccer team earned a shutout victory in its first ever CCAA match on Friday night, beating Cal State LA 1-0 at Bobcat Field.
With the win, the Bobcats (4-1-3) extended their home unbeaten streak to 17 matches dating back to the 2022 season.
Trinidad Quiroz provided the game-winning goal in the 76th minute, her third game-winning goal of the year and fourth goal overall. She received a long ball into the box from Macy Max in stride and took one dribble before firing and burying her shot in the far upper 90.
Max's assist was her first of the season.
Alicia Lepe posted her CCAA leading sixth shutout of the year and was credited with four saves. Two of her saves came quickly after the Bobcats goal as Cal State LA was in full attack mode looking for the equalizer. With her performance, Lepe passed Gabby Vinco for seventh in program history with 52 career saves.
Cal State LA outshot UC Merced 11-8 on the day, just 4-3 for shots on frame. Quiroz shared match-high with three shots which all came in the second half. Sonya Gregoris and Sarai Fresquez took the Bobcats shots in the first half. Cal State LA won the corner kick battle 3-0.
Preeya Singh, Lizzie Ledesma, Kaeley Cariglio, and Max played the full 90 minutes for UC Merced. Cariglio also recorded a shot on frame.
Gregoris earned her first career start.
Looking ahead, UC Merced will host Cal State East Bay on Sunday, October 5 at 11:30am on Bobcat Field.
