SAN FRANCISCO – The University of California, Merced women's volleyball team was swept by San Francisco State on Saturday night, 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-12).
With the loss, the Bobcats (4-11) fall to 3-3 in CCAA play.
Sera Riley recorded six kills and three digs.
Ellie Gordon had eight assists, five digs, and two service aces.
Kyra Miller collected seven assists, three kills, and a service ace.
Other notables include nine digs from Taylor Crayne and two blocks from Morgan Wilson and Kylah Guzman.
San Francisco State recorded a .412 hitting percentage in the sweep. Aidan Goodrich and Grace Witcher combined for 33 kills on a .588 success rate for San Francisco State.
The Bobcats scored the first three points of the match and had a good start to the first set building a 9-5 lead with the help of Miller. UC Merced held an advantage until an 11-11 tie. The set was also tied 13-13 before San Francisco State jumped ahead with a 6-3 run to go up 19-16. The Bobcats battled back to pull even 21-21, but couldn't take a lead and ultimately fell 25-23.
The teams traded 3-0 runs to start the second set, however the Bobcats were unable to take a lead and the last tie was 5-5. UC Merced used another 3-0 run a little later, but it was to cut into a deficit. UC Merced was within a point after a Guzman solo block at 17-16. The Gators countered with a 6-0 burst and the Bobcats couldn't make up ground after that, dropping the set 25-19. Riley had four kills in the frame.
San Francisco State exploded out of the gate in set three to an 11-3 lead where ten of the eleven points came via the kill or service ace. The Gators extended their lead to double figures at 17-7 and closed the match from there, getting a 25-12 win in set three for the sweep.
