Bobcats Drop Season Finale to Stanislaus State

MERCED, Calif. – The University of California, Merced women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Stanislaus State in the 2025 season finale on Thursday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats finish its first season in the CCAA and NCAA Division II with a 6-8-4 record overall and a 3-7-1 record in conference play.

Stanislaus State took an early lead in the 17th minute off a set piece. After the service, the Bobcats were unable to clear it and Stan State's leading goal scorer Olivia Maragos put her shot from the top of the goal area into the back of the net.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime as the Bobcats were outshot 5-2 in the first 45 minutes. Jackie Tamayo put a shot on target late in the first half.

Lexi Wright tied the game in the 74th minute off a rebound. Trinidad Quiroz earned the assist on the goal as she hit the post with a shot of her own and her shot bounced to the charging Wright at the penalty marker. Wright hit her one-timer to the left corner of the net. Wright's goal was her second of the year, as was Quiroz's assist.

With the assist, Quiroz tied Karen Lepe for eighth in program history with 14 career assists.

Quiroz finishes her stellar career ranked second in program history with 110 total points.

Stanislaus State responded with the game-winning goal in the 79th minute when Kelleyann Rodriguez banked her shot off the far post and in. Rodriguez received a cross to set up the score.

Lizzie Ledesma had the only other shot the rest of the match but her 88th minute attempt at an equalizer from outside the box was saved. Preeya Singh earned the Bobcats a corner kick a minute later but it didn't result in a shot attempt.

Stan State outshot the Bobcats 10-6 overall and won the corner kick battle 7-5.

Alicia Lepe was credited with two saves for the Bobcats.

Singh, Macy Max, and Katy Flores played the full 90 minutes in their final match for the Bobcats. Ledesma and Tamayo also logged all 90. Singh wraps up the year having played all 1,620 minutes across the 18 matches.

Kaeley Cariglio returned from injury to play in her 70th and final career match. She finishes tied for sixth in program history with her 70 game appearances.

Flores and Hannah DeLay finished tied for tenth with 69 career matches played.

Flores also finishes sixth all-time with 60 career starts.

UC Merced finishes its first year in the CCAA picking up points against conference tournament qualifiers Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Humboldt and earning key nonconference points against Azusa Pacific and Simon Fraser.
