Brown Named Second Team Academic All-American

MERCED, Calif. – University of California, Merced junior guard Cameron Brown was named to the Second Team Academic All-America men's basketball team selected by College Sports Communicators.

Brown is the first men's basketball Academic All-American in program history and California Pacific Conference history. He is just the fourth Bobcat in school history across all sports, joining women's soccer's Trinidad Quiroz and men's volleyball's Brennan Taylor and Ryan Kilgore.

Last month, Brown was named a NAIA Third Team All-American and the California Pacific Conference Player of the Year. The San Lorenzo, Calif., native is also one of four finalists for the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar of the Year by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. He is a finalist with Jayo Adegboyo (UMBC Track/Cross Country), Blaise Threatt (Weber State/Basketball), and Dylan Williams (Georgia State/Soccer).

Brown led UC Merced with 14.9 points and 1.3 steals per game as the Bobcats earned their first Cal Pac Regular Season Championship and at-large berth to the NAIA National Championship. Brown and the Bobcats finished 20-7 overall, including 10-0 in Cal Pac play.

Brown carries a 3.58 GPA in the classroom majoring in business and management economics. He has also been named a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete and a Cal Pac All-Academic Team member.

In three years at UC Merced, Brown has totaled 981 career points and 100 steals. Both rank fourth in program history. He holds the program-record for the most points in a game with 39 points against Lincoln University on December 7, 2024.

Brown is also committed to serving his community, including volunteering with the Human Help Project and B Up! of Merced County.

In Oakland, Brown has consistently volunteered for Gardner Food Bank, Boys & Girls Club, Parks Chapel Youth Department, St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter, and Oak Creek Alzheimer's and Dementia Care Nursing Home.

Brown is the first men's basketball player to earn the Academic All-American accolade from a University of California campus since UC San Diego's Adam Klie in 2017 and the first from a NAIA institution since 2014. UC Merced is one of just three schools in California to have a men's basketball Academic All-American in the last five years joining Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Stanford.
