McClanahan Earns FloCollege/CCAA Player of the Week

MERCED, Calif. – University of California, Merced men's basketball junior guard Sterling McClanahan was named the FloCollege/CCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

McClanahan, who delivered back-to-back 30-point games on the road, is UC Merced's first ever CCAA men's basketball weekly award winner.

McClanahan tallied a career-high 34 points and two steals in a win over Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, pouring in 29 of his 34 points in the second half to help the Bobcats pull away from CSUSM. His 34 points tied the 2025-26 CCAA single-game high and tied the Bobcats program-record for the most points ever in a road game (Aki Chambers/Feb. 2, 2013). Overall, his scoring output is the highest by any Bobcat since Cameron Brown on December 7, 2024. McClanahan shot a blistering 70% (12-17) from the field, 71% (5-7) from three-point range, and 83% (5-6) from the free throw line in his 34-point winning outing.

Earlier in the week, the Fairfield, Calif., native scored 30 points and had a career-high eight rebounds in an overtime game at Cal State Monterey Bay. He shot 55% from the field and hit 4-of-8 three-pointers and 6-of-7 free throws. McClanahan also had a steal.

McClanahan came off the bench in both games to play 29 and 35 minutes, respectively. The win over CSUSM marked the Bobcats fourth win in their last five games, their best five-game stretch of the season.

McClanahan is the first player in the CCAA with two straight 30-point games on the road since Chico State's Jojo Murphy in 2022. Also of note, he is the only CCAA player with a pair of 30+ point games this season.

The junior college transfer from Las Positas College is now ranked third in the CCAA in scoring with 16.8 PPG.

He is looking to become the first Bobcat since Aki Chambers in 2012-13 to average more than 16.5 PPG in a full season.

Up next, UC Merced will host Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday, February 5 at 7:30pm inside the Joseph Edward Gallo Gymnasium.
