CLOVIS, Calif. – The University of California, Merced track team continued its season at West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
Sharvin Manjrekar got the day started for the Bobcats with a win in the 5000m run, finishing the race in a personal-best time of 14:54.45. He bettered the second fastest time in program history by more than 15 seconds while leading the field of 22 runners.
Martel Fields earned a pair of second place finishes highlighted by a program-record 200m dash time of 20.76 seconds, the new second fastest time in NCAA Division II. Fields took runner-up in the 100m dash stopping the clock in 10.55 seconds.
Leslie Aquino broke her own program-records in the 800m and 1500m. The 1500m was up first and she turned in a time of 4:49.45. She recorded a time of 2:20.61 in the 800m.
Seneca Ybarra broke his own program record with a time of 55.18 seconds in the 400m hurdles and he finished eighth in the field.
Naseem Hassaan took seventh in the 200m with a personal-best time of 21.55 seconds, while Buffalo Soito finished eighth in the 5000m stopping the clock in a personal-best 15:44.98.
Clarisel Lopez Obeso highlighted the Bobcats women's sprint team with times of 12.44 seconds in the 100m dash and 26.03 seconds in the 200m dash. She also anchored the women's 4x100 relay team to the second fastest time in program history, 49.45 seconds.
Looking ahead, UC Merced will head to Cox Stadium in San Francisco for the Mike Fanelli Track Classic April 3-4.
