SAN FRANCISCO – The University of California, Merced track team competed at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at Cox Stadium and the Brutus Hamilton Invitational at Edwards Stadium over the weekend. The meets were hosted by San Francisco State and California, respectively.
Sharvin Manjrekar reset his own program-record in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 9:16.48. His 3000s time is the third fastest in the CCAA this year.
Leslie Aquino broke her own 800m program-record for the second straight meet, stopping the clock in 2:19.19. She also turned in a personal-best 5000m time of 18:28.78, which is good for the second fastest mark in program history.
Both Manjrekar and Aquino's performances came at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
Kasia Holland, Cole Rommelfanger, and Buffalo Soito also turned in personal-bests and top five program times in San Francisco.
Holland recorded the program's second fastest 1500m time of 4:53.97.
Rommelfanger is now third in the 800m in 1:54.93 and is fifth in the 1500m in 4:01.27.
Soito took over the No. 4 spot in the Bobcats 1500m record books with a time of 4:00.56.
At the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, Seneca Ybarra earned a seventh-place overall finish in the 400m hurdles in 55.34 seconds.
Martel Fields secured ninth in the 100m dash in 10.77 seconds, while Naseem Hassaan took tenth overall in the 200m dash with a time of 21.97 seconds.
Looking ahead, UC Merced will continue its season at the Chico Invitational April 10-11 in Chico, Calif.
