RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Freshman Emma Drelinger set a new University of California, Merced women's cross country 6k record in her collegiate debut at the UCR Invitational on Saturday morning. Jorge Mandujano was the Bobcats top scorer on the men's side with a personal-best time in the 8k.
Drelinger led the Bobcats with a program-record time of 21:15.2, improving the previous record set by Leslie Aquino in the season opener by over 30 seconds. Drelinger placed 56th in the invite.
Aquino came in next for the Bobcats with a personal-best time of 21:25.8, placing 78th. Her new top mark is No. 2 in program history.
Delia Rodriguez now owns the Bobcats third ever fastest 6k time after crossing the finish line in 21:36.8, good for 98th in the field. Gabriela Zarat Ruiz ran her first collegiate race in 22:57.2 and placed 230th. The freshman takes over the No. 7 spot in the UC Merced 6k record books. Maitha Alradaei improved her personal-best time and crossed the finish line 242nd with a time of 23:14.8. The Bobcats placed 22nd as a team.
Mandujano led UC Merced men's cross country for the first time in his career, finishing 34th in a personal-best 8k time of 25:42.1.
Sharvin Manjrekar was the second Bobcat to cross the finish line, placing 53rd in 25:54.4. Buffalo Soito (117th/26:46.8) was next and he was followed by Miguel Rebollo Estrada (153rd/26:46.8) and Sergio Vivar Jr. (170th/27:34.0). As a team, UC Merced finished 15th.
Up next, UC Merced will compete at the Pacific Invitational in Lodi, Calif., on Friday October 2.
