General Questions
- Where is study tables held?
- Study tables will be held in the SAAC building room 209, unless posted otherwise.
- Who must attend Study Tables?
- Freshman must attend 6 hours first semester and 3 hours second semester per week.
- Any student-athlete falling below a 2.3 cumulative GPA must attend a minimum of 3 hours per week.
- Any student athlete falling below a 2.3 GPA in any semester must attend 3 hours per week during the following semester regardless of cumulative GPA.
- Additional hours may be (and often are) mandated by coaches or Athletics Administration.
- Do I need to bring anything in particular to study table sessions?
- Yes, you must have your Cat Card to swipe in and out of the session to receive credit for attending.
- Can the general public attend study tables?
- No, study tables are strictly for UC Merced student athletes.
- When do I have to complete my hours by?
- All hours must be completed each week by Friday at 5pm. You will have Saturday through Friday to complete required hours.
- Is there internet in the SAAC building where study tables is held?
- Yes there is Wi-Fi access available.
- How do I know how many hours I have completed so far this week?
- Each student athlete is responsible for keeping track of their own hours every week. Utilize a planner, notebook or Study Table Tracking Log.
- Are we allowed to work in groups with other student athletes if we are taking the same course?
- Working in groups is not permitted as we maintain a no-talking policy.
- Can I leave the study tables room during the sessions?
- You may leave the study area at any time as long as you swipe out and in upon return.
Tutoring/Office Hours/ Workshops Questions
- Will tutoring / office hours count towards my hours?
- Yes tutoring / office hours can count towards your hours, as long as a Student Athlete Academic Submission slip is filled out and signed by the instructor/tutor and returned by each Friday BEFORE 5pm.
- Where can I turn in the Student Athlete Academic Submission slips?
- Slips may be turned in to the Supervisor during study tables or to the reception desk located in the SAAC building.
- What if I have a tutoring / office hour session that ends after 5 pm on Fridays?
- If the session ends at 5pm, return slips as soon as possible and be sure to fill out the TIME PERIOD ATTENED so that the person recording hours will be aware of it.
- If the session starts after 5pm on Friday please inform the Student Athlete Services Assistant of the situation so they can be aware and assist in making appropriate arrangements so credit can be received.
- If I attend a workshop on campus will it count towards my hours?
- Yes, workshops can count towards your hours but you must turn in a Student Athlete Academic Submission slip, which is filled out and signed by the instructor. Slips for workshops must be returned by Friday at 5pm.
- Could peers I know sign a slip after they tutor me?
- No, tutoring hours will only count if they are tutors from on-campus tutoring resources or Student Athlete Learning Assistants. Fellow peers/classmates may not si
- Who can sign Student Athlete Academic Submission slip?
- Tutors: PALS, STEM, Math Center, Chem Center
- Professors / Teaching Assistants
- Coaches or Athletic Administration
- Approved Personnel: BSC, Fiat Lux, DARTS, etc.
Food Questions
- Can I eat while I am at study tables?
- Yes, food is allowed at study tables as long as studying is also taking place. If you are not studying, time will be deducted by the supervisor.
- Can I leave study tables to go get food?
- Yes, however you must sign out and sign in upon return.
Media: Music / Videos Questions
- Are we allowed to listen to music?
- Music is permitted but headphones must be used and the volume must be at a level where others will not hear it.
- Are we allowed to watch videos that are course related?
- You must obtain permission from the Supervisor present and explain how it is related to the course. Any videos not related to courses are unacceptable, and time will be deducted if caught watching.
