Clint Long joins the University of California Merced men’s soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach this season.
Long, who previously coached for three years with the Modesto Ajax U-18 women’s team, brings a wealth of goalkeeping knowledge from an impressive playing career, as well as an NSCAA Level Three Goalkeeper License.
Long has played soccer on almost all levels during his career. A four-year starter at Arcata High School, Long recorded 40 shutouts in 86 games played, and over the final three years of his career was named to the All-County Second Team (Sophomore) and First Team (Junior and Senior). He also earned league MVP honors in 2009.
After two years at NCAA Division I, Oregon State University, Long transferred to Cal State Stanislaus where he was a three-year starter. While at Stanislaus he received a long list of accolades including:

- 2012 - played first and second round of playoff games in the NCAA National Tournament
- 2012 - CCAA player of the week
- 2012, 2013 most CCAA saves
- 2012 - Newcomer of the year Cal State Stanislaus

- 2014 - CCAA Tournament Team
- 2014 - CCAA Honorable Mention
Clint was also a team captain from 2012-2014 while at Stanislaus. Over the course of his career he played the second most minutes in goal in school history (5,096) and finished with a .788 save percentage, good for second in school history. He also set the school record for single season goals against average (0.83) and recorded 14 shutouts, good for second all time at Stanislaus.
After his career at Stanislaus, Long played professionally in the Professional Development League with the Midland Odessa Sockers. In seven games with the Sockers, Long recorded a 3-3-3 record with one shutout, 22 saves, and a 1.62 goals against average.
