Marco Sobrevilla enters his second season as an assistant coach for UC Merced men’s soccer in 2024 and is responsible for working with the Bobcats goalkeepers.
The Bobcats finished 13-4-3 in Sobrevilla’s first year on staff, including 9-2-1 in Cal Pac play, and advanced to the NAIA National Championship Second Round following a 5-1 win over WVU Tech. UC Merced posted eight shutouts, which was a top 30 mark in the NAIA and tied for the third most in program history.
A former Bobcat and a 2X All-California Pacific Conference First Team selection, Sobrevilla enjoyed a decorated goalkeeping career with UC Merced from 2018-2022. Sobrevilla finished his UC Merced career ranked first in program history with 58 starts, 43 wins, 13 shutouts, 168 saves, a 0.83 goals against average, and 4,716 minutes played. The Livingston, Calif., native was also named the Cal Pac Defensive Player of the Week three times.
Sobrevilla helped the Bobcats win two Cal Pac Tournament Championships and five berths to the NAIA National Championships Opening Round. In the 2021 Cal Pac Tournament Championship match, Sobrevilla made a single-game program record 13 saves to help secure the postseason hardware.
Sobrevilla has most recently played for Academica SC in USL League Two.
