Andrew Mitchell

Andrew Mitchell is currently in his eighth year as the Sports Information and Marketing Coordinator at UC Merced.

In his role, Mitchell is in charge of promoting all twelve UC Merced Intercollegiate Athletics teams and overseeing statistical and video operations. He also heads the social media strategy and develops creative content for ucmercedbobcats.com and the department's various platforms. Serving as the Bobcats publicist, Mitchell develops press releases and continuously works to pitch student-athlete success stories to the media. You can also hear Mitchell on the Bobcats home broadcasts as the play-by-play announcer.

UC Merced's Sports Information Department has been named the California Pacific Conference Sports Information Department of the Year five times under Mitchell, first in 2019 and then again in 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025.

Mitchell has won eighteen awards in the NAIA-SIDA Publication and Media Contests and has placed as high as second in the Dr. Jack Bell Writing Contest for his recap "Champs! Men's Basketball Wins First Cal Pac Tournament Title" and second in the feature video category for his work on "Scholar-Athlete, Ryan Kilgore".

Prior to joining the Bobcats, Mitchell spent 2016 & 2017 in minor league baseball as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the River City Rascals in O'Fallon, Missouri. With the Rascals, he handled all the press releases and served as the play-by-play broadcaster, including for the 2016 season where the team advanced to their third straight Frontier League Championship Series. Mitchell also assisted with the team’s social media accounts, developed a livestream and handled the publicity for the Frontier League record holder in appearances and for four players that signed with Major League Baseball Organizations.

Mitchell received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from Arizona State University in December of 2015. During his time as an undergraduate, Mitchell interned in the Sun Devils Media Relations office and served as an on-air talent and producer for the campus’ student radio station. Some of his most valuable experiences at Arizona State came as a student intern for the 2015 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and as a Cronkite News Reporter for Pro Bowl, Super Bowl XLIX events among many others while participating in a Phoenix and Los Angeles Sports Bureau. Mitchell was also a familiar face with the Sun Devil Baseball team and served as a student manager and a sports information intern.

Mitchell is a member of CSC and has assisted with the Media Services Staff for the past two NCAA Men's Basketball Tournaments in Los Angeles and San Jose.

Mitchell was born and raised in Antelope, Calif. Currently, Mitchell resides in Merced.
