Box Score 2 MERCED, Calif. - The University of California, Merced women's volleyball team dropped a pair of four-set matches to Park University - Gilbert on Sunday afternoon inside the Joseph Edward Gallo Gymnasium.
The Bobcats fell 1-3 (28-26, 20-25, 24-26, 24-26) in the first match and 1-3 (27-25, 16-25, 16-25, 21-25) in the second match.
The Bobcats (3-5) have now completed their program-long eight-match homestand and will finish the regular season with two of their final three games on the road.
Olivia Harden and Olanasaze Ojo highlighted the Bobcats efforts throughout the day and both turned in career performances.
Harden was good for a career-high 15 kills in the first match, including smacking five kills in the third set against the Buccaneers. Harden joins Lexus Lagumbay as the only other active Bobcat with at least 15 kills in a match over the course of their career. She added eight more kills and a block in the latter part of the day.
Ojo, a day after notching a career-high eight blocks, tallied a career-high 13 kills in Sunday's opener. After a 30-minute break, Ojo took Hostetler Court for the final match of the weekend and impacted the game with nine kills and four blocks, three solo. Ojo now has at least one solo block in five straight matches dating back to March 1.
Setter Serena Choi pitched in at least 20 assists in both ends of the doubleheader. Her best match was the noon contest in which she was good for a career-high 27 assists. Choi had 20 assists, two kills and two blocks in match two.
Another highlight for the Bobcats came from the back row players and for the second straight match, the tough feat of four players with double figure digs occured. Leading the bunch in the noon match was libero Madison Mayoralgo, who tallied a season-high and held match-high with 20 digs. Destiny Lei Ramilo had a career-high 13 digs, while Edwena Wong and Lexus Lagumbay each pitched in eleven. Lagumbay's efforts moved her into eighth all-time on the program's all-time digs list. Lagumbay passed Hannah Castillo and now has 468 career digs.
Mayoralgo and Lagumbay were sidelined for match two, but Wong was on the floor and notched a new career-high with 15 digs.
Other individual notables from Sunday's doubleheader include 15 total kills from Hannah Dillingham, 14 total kills and four blocks from Teola Nowak, 22 total assists from Bianca Malaluan and ten digs from Jalen Carey.
Despite losing both matches of the doubleheader, team positives include the Bobcats holding Park - Gilbert under a .250 hitting percentage throughout the day. The Bobcats have now limited their opponent to a sub .250 hitting percentage in seven of eight matches this year and six straight since February 24.
The Bobcats are on a Cal Pac three-match losing streak for the first time since November of 2018.
Looking ahead, the Bobcats look to get back on track on Tuesday, March 23 when they visit Pacific Union College. First serve from Angwin, Calif., is scheduled for 4:00pm.
