Simpson extended their lead to double figures at 59-48 just over three minutes into the fourth. It was 61-52 with Simpson in front when the Bobcats started one final push, going on an 8-0 run highlighted by a pair of nice Lewis drives to the basket to pull within a single point with 90 seconds to go. However, Simpson scored on their next trip down the floor and would end up icing the game at the charity stripe shortly after.
UC Merced finished the night shooting 34% (22-64) from the floor and 68% (15-22) from the foul line.
The Bobcats outrebounded Simpson 38-24 in the loss. Each team had 16 turnovers.
