SEASIDE, Calif. – The University of California, Merced women's water polo team fell 22-1 to NCAA Division II foe Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday night at the Otter Tank.
The Bobcats (6-9) lone goal was scored by
Viviana Luna late in the first quarter and the freshman extended her goal scoring streak to ten consecutive games dating back to January 21.
Goalkeeper
Carlin Rodelo was credited with the assist on the score. Rodelo also recorded four saves and a steal.
Luna added four steals.
UC Merced buckled down defensively as the game went on, allowing just four goals in the second half compared to the 18 given up in the first half.
CSUMB was led by Shelby Fortune's four-goal night. Twelve different Otters scored a goal overall, while CSUMB goalkeeper Grace Mensing stood strong in the cage with ten saves and no goals allowed in her 24 minutes. Mensing played the final three quarters.
