MERCED, Calif. - Jaydah Aguilar, Kasia Holland, and Clarisel Lopez Obeso from the University of California, Merced women's cross country and outdoor track team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
The award recognizes top student-athletes for their combined performances on the course and track, and in the classroom.
Aguilar placed third overall in the Cal Pac Cross Country Championships and earned silver medals on the track in the 800m (2:28.16) and 1500m (5:23.79) events. She is currently ranked second in program history in the 800m with a time of 2:22.36. Also of note, she was a part of the 4X800 relay team that ranked eighth regionally with a time of 10:29.55. She graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
Holland won the Cal Pac 800m championship in 2:26.60 and earned another podium finish later on by placing second in the 5000m event. Her 800m time was good for fourth in program history. On the cross country course, Holland earned All-Cal Pac First Team honors with a fifth-place finish running a personal-best time of 26:07.1. She is working towards a degree in psychology.
Both Holland and Aguilar scored for the Bobcats at the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships.
Lopez Obeso, who advances to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, was named the Cal Pac Outdoor Track Female Athlete of the Year in April. She won gold medals in the 100m and 200m dashes, including setting the Cal Pac Championship record of 12.12 in the 100m. She finished the year ranked fifth regionally in the 100m dash and seventh in the 200m dash (25.34). Both times are program-records. She is also part of the sixth fastest 4x100m relay team in the region. With Lopez-Obeso highlighting the squad, the relay team hit a program-record 42.30. She is a public health major with a 3.94 GPA.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher while finishing top-25 in their conference championship.
