LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of California, Merced outdoor track teams concluded the regular season on Saturday at the Oxy Invite. Favour Nnaji and Martel Fields ran two sprints events, while nine other Bobcats competed in one event.
Nnaji and Fields ran a 10.87 100m dash and a 22.31 200m dash, respectively. They also teamed up with Neil-Matthew Sutherland and Drake Jackson to run a program-record 4x100 relay time of 42.42.
Later in the day, Jonathan Chavez clocked 3:53.53 in the 1500m which was his second national standard time of the campaign.
Sharvin Manjrekar's effort of 9:28.17 in the 3000m steeplechase saw him clock his second straight NAIA "B" Standard time. Derrick Pickrel finished in 10:33.27.
Joshua Riley ran the second fastest 5000m time in program history, finishing the run in 15:20.03.
Elizette Ysais highlighted the women's side with a season-best 18:25.98 in the 5000m.
Brieanna Anderson crossed the line in the 1500m in 4:59.60, becoming the first women's runner in program history to break five minutes in three consecutive meets.
Alexandra Lopez recorded a time of 11:50.23 in the 3000m steeplechase.
Looking ahead, three Bobcats will compete in the NAIA National Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 22-24 in Marion, Ind. The three national qualifiers are Jonathan Chavez (1500m), Neil-Matthew Sutherland (110m hurdles), and Sharvin Manjrekar (3000m steeplechase and/or 1500m).
