MARION, Ind. – University of California, Merced outdoor track opened the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships with three prelims on Wednesday afternoon.
Jonathan Chavez highlighted the Bobcats by punching his ticket to the 1500m final, placing sixth in the field while crossing the finish line in 3:58.35. He advances to Friday's final where the top eight finishers earn All-American honors.
The men's 4x800m team of Sharvin Manjrekar, Alberto Guevara, Joshua Riley, and Jalen Morales took 30th place with a time of 8:24.25.
Martel Fields concluded his sophomore season in the 200m dash placing 31st in 22.49.
Chavez's 1500m final is scheduled for 11:10am PST on Friday, May 23 at Indiana Wesleyan's Track & Field Complex in Marion, Ind.
