SAN MARCOS, Calif. - University of California, Merced men's track senior Sharvin Manjrekar won the CCAA Championship in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday afternoon, clocking a program-record time of 9:11.97 at Mangrum Track in San Marcos, Calif.
Manjrekar is the first CCAA Champion in UC Merced history.
The three-day championship event also saw Seneca Ybarra break the 400m hurdles program-record with a time of 55.17 seconds. The Bobcats freshman took seventh in the prelims.
Martel Fields, the 3X CCAA Male Athlete of the Week, won his heat in the 200m prelims in 21.27 seconds. He dashed to the fourth fastest prelim time overall. The junior took fifth in the 100m dash prelims in 10.69 seconds.
Both Ybarra and Fields would have advanced to the finals in their respective events if the Bobcats were eligible for the finals.
Cole Rommelfanger would have also advanced to the 1500m finals as he secured a time of 3:58.20, good for 12th in the prelims.
The Bobcats 4x100 women's relay team registered a program-record in 49.34 seconds. The relay squad included Clarisel Lopez Obeso, Chelsea Anyanwu, Nneka Egbuziem, and Joyce Nichet.
Buffalo Soito turned in a personal-best and now holds the fifth fastest 5000m time in program history of 15:28.83.
Leslie Aquino finished in the top half of the field in the 800m with a time of 4:45.42. She recorded a time of 18:30.92 in the 5000m.
